Whistler 2009 - Part 2

So... it's been a few more days, and I'm starting to make peace with California again. I can safely return to the subject of Whistler now without wanting to slit my wrists because I'm no longer there.

Day 3 in Whistler was kind of a bummer day for me. It started off well enough, we had hooked up the helmet cam we borrowed from Colin and Neil was out riding with us again. We got one full (and awesome) run down the mountain on Freight Train and A-Line with the helmet cam going. I hit the A-Line drop for the first time which was sweet. I hope to get that video posted at some point, but we need to edit it first.

Pre-Fall drop in clinic. FUN!

Then, on our second run, we stopped about a quarter of the way down for a breather. As we started up again, before I'd gotten more than 3 pedals in, a small loose rock jumped out in front of my front tire and flipped me over my bars. Ouch. Somehow I managed to land on something hard with one of the few spots on my body that was not padded up - my upper thigh - and gave myself possibly the worst charlie horse ever. So much for hitting the Container and the GLC drop this run. That was pretty much the end of the day for me. Neil helped me up and directed me down the fire road (boring!!) to the bottom of the mountain where I met up again with he and Russell for a snack/beer in hopes that my leg would feel better fast. It did not. The guys headed back up the mountain and I chilled in the village until Whitney came and picked me up and took me back to their place for application of frozen veggies. BOO!

Trying hard to be the "toughest girl on the planet" after my fall

That night we had delicious Sushi at Sushi village however, where the boys sported their mustaches, so that kind of made up for my short day on the bike.

Sushi Vil with our awesome hosts

Day 4 might have been my favorite day. My leg was feeling well enough so I could ride, and though we planned on only doing 3 runs, we ended up riding all day after a quick pitstop for new brake pads. The top of the mountain was closed, so we spent our day on the lower half of the mountain. Crank it up, Schleyer, Joyride, A-Line.... awesome. Schleyer is the most fun trail ever, and Joyride is awesome too but we only got 1 run on that so there was a lot of stopping and scoping first, whereas schleyer we did several times so we got good at it and rode it cleanly.

Me on Schleyer

I was also determined to do the big GLC drop today since I missed my chance the day before. Followed Ruski over it and it was surprisingly easy and not that scary, so I did it 3 more times :) Hooray!! Also got on an A-Line roll at one point and made like 4 of the jumps in a row. Hooray again!! No pics of either of those though :( We were having too much fun to stop!!

Day 4 did end with sadness though. We had to pack up our bikes and hit the road. We had said goodbye to our favorite hosts earlier in the morning, but we still had to say goodbye to our favorite place. A little shopping to pick up some new jerseys, and another stop for Timmies on the way to the airport, and the dream was over.
