I finally got the cast off and my hand is sort of beginning to feel like a human hand again. It still feels kind of like a limp vegetable from time to time, but the strength is coming back slowly and I can almost grip my handlebars tightly now. Until my doc clears me for dirt, I'm practicing being a roadie for now, on my mountain bike that is. On Thursday after 2 'warm up' road rides on Monday and Tuesday, I decided to kick it up a notch and get Russel to take me on a ride that even roadies hate, and I did it on my mountain bike. 2304 ft of elevation, 16.53 miles, 1 hour and 22 minutes. See route below. Take that roadies! It's not quite sweet dirt singletrack, but it feels really great to be pedaling again. Pretty proud of 2300 ft of climbing after 7 weeks off the bike.

For my 4th ride back in the saddle, we decided to user our Saturday afternoon to ride our bikes on the Santa Ana river PATH (not trail unfortunately) all the way to Manhattan beach. 50 miles is a long way on a mountain bike even if it is flat, particularly when Russell is pushing it hard and I'm trying my darndest to keep up. My legs were definitely feeling jello-like afterwards.
The Santa Ana River Path is pretty darn cool. It was really fun seeing all of the people out on every variety of bike you can imagine. Teenagers on cruisers in their bathing suits, kids on BMX bikes, serious roadies... pretty much any bike you can think of except one of those old school bikes with the one big wheel. What a sweet way to spend a Saturday! Everybody can ride a bike, and that is one of the coolest things about biking in my opinion. Here's me at the beach!! I heart bikes and I heart beaches.
