Day 7 and 8 - Sedona
Sedoneee Arizoneee.
We go here every Thanksgiving, and it never gets boring. Sedona is a place that as a mountain biker you will be challenged and you will have fun. Doesn't matter if you're a pro all-star or a super noob. There will be sections you can't ride, and sections you can't wait to go back to for more.
This year we were only there for 2 days. On the first day, we rode from our hotel up to Chicken point and back, and we rode Templeton to Baldwin. This was a really fun day, those are my two fave trails in Sedona, but we were pretty tired. Pretty much passed out when we got back to the hotel.
On day 2 we got top secret instructions to a "locals only" type trail. This was almost the end of me. The trail itself was really not that bad, and actually pretty fun. But GETTING to the trail was a real pain in the butt. I don't think I've ever hiked my bike quite so much on a ride. Not to mention it was windy as hell and we were lost for around half an hour and Russell was grumpy because our GPS had pissed him off the night before. It was definitely one of those situations when I had to keep telling myself to be a trooper and that I'd get superwoman points if I rode the trail we were looking for.
Like I said, most of the trail, once we found it was fun, and pretty cool. There was only one crazy exposed piece of slickrock that made me actually think Russell was going to die when I saw him ride across it... and even that wasn't so bad once I got to it. I would have ridden if it weren't so darn windy I thought I would be blown off the edge.
In short, it's the trip to this trail that gives you the 'hangover'.
The rest of Sedona was sweet as always, we went to our usual restaurants and our usual bike shop and saw all the usual gorgeous scenery. Turned out there were a whole bunch of Socal'ers there for Thanksgiving weekend. We didn't meet up with any... but sounds like they all had a good time too. I Love You Sedona. Actually, it's a love/hate relationship in which I in part want to hurl my bike against your red rocks and in part want to kiss the ground that makes up some of my favorite trails ever... but I think that's because of the Vortexes.
