Day 6 - Mesa Verde and a long drive

We almost didn't go to Mesa Verde. We had heard it would take minimum 4 hours and we knew we had at least 8 hours of driving ahead of us so we weren't sure. I'm really glad we made the decision to go do this anyway. I love national parks. And Mesa Verde is a really cool one. We started off with the plan to just drive around the rim and go to all the overlooks for the cliff dwellings, but when we were done with that it just happened to be 10am, time for the first guided tour of the day down into Spruce Tree house - one of the dwellings. So... we did it. I highly recommend to anyone who is in this area of the country. Very cool learning about how the Pueblo people lived 700 years ago.

Next stop on the list was 4 Corners. We both wanted the classic picture with one limb in each State. Here is the picture we got instead.

If you read carefully, you can see it's closed on Thanksgiving Day. Great. Why on earth does a big plaque on the ground need to have employees?

So then we drove through some sketchy desert reservation towns and got pretty bored of looking at rocks out the window. The scenery got a little more interesting as we passed through monument valley, kind of straight out of an old western, but it was soon back to rocks and short pointy looking grass.

Finally, we got to the mountains around Flagstaff and there were trees again!! Hooray for trees! And that was pretty much the drive. We arrived in Sedona at around 6pm and went broke our Mexican food Thanksgiving dinner tradition, having Thai instead. Oh well, it was delicious.
